Society for Living Angels is a non-profit association that supports children and adults having an intellectual disability and their families.  It is duly registered for CSR with the National Empowerment Foundation.

What is Intellectual Disability?

According to the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (2007), intellectual disability is: A disability characterized by significant limitations both in intellectual functioning and in adaptive behaviour as expressed in conceptual, social, and practical adaptive skills. This disability originates before the age of 18. Intellectual disability is not a mental illness. It has historically been defined as an Intelligence Quotient score under 70. Intellectually disabled people have different levels of intelligence and adaptive behaviour.

Why ‘Living Angels’?

We refer to people with intellectual disabilities as “living angels”, simply because we consider that intellectually disabled people are like angels on Earth, angels to their family, friends and society. They are beings of light with a great capacity to love one and all and we believe that they are not capable of creating negative karma during the course of their life due to their cognitive disability.
